Refer Patient screen: Patient Information and Patient Files sections

Veterinarians can use the Refer Patient screen to refer patients to a specialty or emergency practice. The Patient Information and Patient Files sections of the screen have information about the patient and their medical records.

Note: Specialty and emergency practices can change the boxes that show in the Refer Patient screen. As a result, the sections can be different when you refer patients to different practices.
Note: Specialty and emergency practices can change which boxes are necessary for you to use. Each box that is necessary to use has an asterisk (*) adjacent to its name.

Boxes of the Patient Information section

This table gives each box in the Patient Information section and how to use it.

BoxHow to use the box
NameUse Name to enter the name of the patient.
BreedUse Breed to enter the breed of the patient.
Color / DescriptionUse Color / Description to enter the color of the patient and other applicable information.
Rabies Vaccine CurrentUse Rabies Vaccine Current to select the status of rabies vaccine of the patient.
Rabies Vaccine TypeUse Rabies Vaccine Type to select the type of the rabies vaccine of the patient.
Rabies Vaccine ExpirationUse Rabies Vaccine Expiration to select the vaccine expiration date of the patient.
SpeciesUse Species to select the species of the patient. If the species is not in the list, select Other.
Other SpeciesIf you select Other from the Species box, use Other Species to enter the species of the patient.
SexUse Sex to select the sex of the patient.
DOBUse DOB to select the date of birth of the patient.
WeightUse Weight to enter the weight of the patient.
InfectiousIf the patient is infectious, set Infectious to Yes.
FractiousIf the patient is fractious or irritated, set Fractious to Yes

Patient Files section

Veterinarians can use the Patient Files section to upload files to the referral. The uploaded files can include:

  • Medical records
  • Lab results
  • Diagnostic images

When veterinarians refer a patient, rVetLink shows a set of methods to send patient files. The referring veterinarian selects a method to show how they will send the patient files to the practice.

This table gives information about each method:

MethodHow to use the method
Will be attached Use Will be attached to upload the files to the referral. When the files are uploaded, you can see and delete the files.
Note: If you select Will be attached, you must upload a minimum of one file to the referral.
Will be Faxed Use Will be Faxed to send the files by fax to the practice.
Will be emailed Use Will be emailed to send the files by email to the practice.
Client will bring Use Client will bring if the client has a copy of the files and carries it to the appointment.
None being sentUse None being sent if you do not have files to send.
